Check out our review here for our impressions of Mann's passion project. The film will release on Blu-ray and DVD on March 12. Neon has a strong slate of films this year with Ava Duvernay's Origin in theaters now and Seeking Mavis Beacon and Stress Positions currently at Sundance, but viewers can revisit Ferrari at home on digital starting tomorrow, January 23. Together with screenwriter Troy Kennedy Martin, Mann delivered another project that has been considered among his best work. While the film spun out at the box office with only $35.1 million globally, the film has been highly regarded by critics and audiences alike with a 72% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. Mann was happy to have his long-gestating passion project made outside the traditional studio system, however, and the partnership paid off for both parties, at least in the critical sense. Originally premiering at the Venice Film Festival, Ferrari was a surprising pickup for the "very independent" Neon given its stellar cast and the director behind it. Aside from Driver, Ferrari features a standout performance from Penélope Cruz as Laura alongside Shailene Woodley as Lardi, Gabriel Leone as Alfonso De Portago, Sarah Gadon as Linda Christian, Patrick Dempsey as Piero Taruffi, and Jack O'Connell as Peter Collins. Interviews with cast members will also highlight the excellent ensemble assembled for the racing biopic. The eventual physical release of the film will include featurettes that explore how Mann recreated the Mille Miglia and the accident that ended the race for good, as well as the many vehicles featured during and outside the race. The stress of managing the racing team would only be compounded, however, when tragedy struck during the competition and Enzo found himself amid major legal troubles over his creation's responsibility for the deadly crash. He sees only one way to restore the Ferrari name to glory - the Mille Miglia, a dangerous race through Italy that would serve as the perfect showcase for their vehicles. Their marriage is on the rocks given Enzo's affair with Lina Lardi and his illegitimate son Piero. Bankruptcy looms over the factory he and his wife Laura Ferrari built together and, on a more personal note, both are still reeling from the death of their young son Dino the previous year. Ferrari unfolds in the Summer of 1957 as Enzo's life and company fall into turmoil. ![]()
